Raise your hand if the last thing you do before bed is scroll through your phone?
While checking that Instagram feed may be a tempting way to wind down, using electronic devices before sleep can contribute to sleep deprivation. The blue light emitted from their screens can adversely affect melatonin production, increase alertness and shift circadian rhythms.
Due to the negative effects of phones on sleep, it seems counterintuitive to use a phone app as a sleep aid. However, when used correctly, they can actually help you catch more zzz’s!
We’ve rounded up the top 5 apps that help you fall asleep and stay asleep. If sleep eludes you, why not give one of these popular sleep apps a try?

Some stories are free, but if you get a subscription, the options increase and include meditations made specifically for sleep.

You can view detailed charts and compare your sleeping patterns over time. The lightest sleep stage is the easiest to wake up from; as a result you wake up feeling refreshed and rested.
