Say “goodnight” to snoring

If you’re suffering from snoring, you may have sleep apnea. Take our quiz and find out if you’re at risk in under 2 minutes, or book a free phone consult to learn more.

Why do people snore?

Snoring can be caused by enlarged tonsils, the nose structure or excess weight around the neck. During sleep, our neck muscles can relax so much that in some cases the throat partly closes and becomes narrow, causing the vibration sound known as snoring.

How do I stop snoring?

There are many different treatments that may help you stop snoring. The first step is to ensure your snoring is not a symptom of obstructive sleep apnea. Find out if you’re at risk for sleep apnea in under 2 minutes.

Sleep apnea

What is sleep apnea?

There are three main types of sleep apnea, but the most common is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA occurs when there is a blockage in your upper airway during sleep, causing shallow breaths or pauses in your breathing. These pauses are called “apneas” and they prevent air from getting to your lungs, which reduces the oxygen to your body. It’s this lack of oxygen that causes many of the symptoms of sleep apnea, including morning headaches and high blood pressure.

What are the symptoms of sleep apnea?

Snoring is a common symptom, but there are others. If you have any of the following symptoms, it could be sleep apnea.

Mood changes

Large neck

Family history of sleep apnea

Morning headaches

Daytime fatigue

Memory loss

Lack of concentration

Witnessed pauses in breathing during sleep

Low sex drive

Nighttime bathroom trips
